Buying clothes online: what to check
- Size in centimetres, not letters. Many AliExpress sellers use Asian size charts: S, M and L often come up one or two sizes smaller than UK and European sizes. Measure a similar item that fits you well (chest width, length, sleeve length) and compare it with the size chart in the product description.
- Fabric. Cotton and wool are softer and breathe better; synthetics are cheaper and crease less. For jumpers and hoodies for cold days, check the fabric weight, the wool content and whether there is a fleece lining — the composition is in the product description.
- Reviews with photos. Buyers’ photos are more realistic than studio shots: they show the real colour and fit. Reviews that mention the buyer’s height and weight are especially useful for choosing a size.
- Care. Before buying, check the washing temperature and whether the item can go in a tumble dryer. Down jackets and wool usually need a gentle cycle.
